Harry Potter
Now we just feel bad about ourselves
It goes without saying that JK Rowling is rich. Forbes have estimated her total wealth at £480 million, which means she’s unlikely to be the kind of person who takes out multiple Netfix memberships and cancels them as soon as her free trial is over.
Having said, Harry Potter fans might still be shook at how this translates in comparison to a regular income. With most people earning a certain amount of money per hour, how do Joanna’s earnings compare to our own?

In the name of feeling terrible about our bank balance, Cosmopolitan have done some digging and worked out exactly what that gigantic sum means in terms of the author’s current day rate.
According to online bookshop Wordery, JK Rowling earns an incredible £6,190,042 per month, which translates into £203,508 per day, and £8,480 every hour. EVERY. HOUR.
Oh, and if you want that broken down even further, she literally earns £142 per minute. It’s also been recognised that this sum could’ve been even higher if she hadn’t donated an estimated £110 million to charity over the years.
For anyone wondering where all this money has actually come from, The Philosopher’s Stone hit bookshelves back in 1997, spawning a seven-book series and a major movie franchise.
More recently, she’s penned the hugely successfully play Harry Potter And The Cursed Child and is at the helm of a brand new magical-themed franchise starring Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne, titled Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
